North Coast500 Beaches

Earlier in the year I went round the North Coast 500 in my car. This beautiful route features many beautiful, lochs, beaches, Mountains and waterfalls. This Blog is about the beaches I passed along the way and my favourite ones that you MUST visit if you live in Scotland or go on your own adventure.

No 1. Balnakeil Bay

This was one of my favourite walks, with sand dunes galore, views of the coastline and a real sense of another world. Don’t just go to the bay go explore the dunes and up to the other side to see the edge of the coastline. Fantastic walk for anywhere between 2-5 hours depending how far you adventure.

No 2. Sandwood Bay

Another beautiful beach in Scotland, only able to arrive here by foot. And is about 4km to get to the beach. The walk itself is scenic and beautiful then as you hit the top of the brow past a old building you look over at the sand dunes and can see the bay. Be sure to walk to different sections and explore the sand dunes. Always have a rain coat the weather changes in a flash from rain to sun and lots of wind.

No 3. Dunnet Beach

I nearly missed this beach as I had just visited Dunnet Head lighthouse, also worth a visit and then was driving to my next destination. Just so happened to see the dunes and got me being inquisitive. Beautiful open beach with people surfing and horse riding along.

No 4. Sango Sands

This beach is only little bit a nice little stop. There is a nice little walk along the cliff top to the beautiful view where you can see the coastline and this place is also very near smoo caves so be sure to explore there as well.

No 5. Achmelvich Bay

Sweet little bay, with an Interesting little look out. Apparently the architect who built the little lookout only stayed in it for one day before leaving it. Bit of a bizzare one but enjoyable exploration with beautiful white sand.
